Privacy Policy

We collect only what’s needed to run Otene. We don’t sell your data, show ads or track you. Profiles and projects are public; upvotes and saved projects are private. You can edit or delete your data at any time.

1. Who we are

Otene is responsible for the personal data described here. Contact: i-built@gmail.com.

2. What we collect

  • Account: your email address, plus your name, username and profile picture if you sign in with Google or GitHub.
  • Profile and projects: what you add to them, including a contact email if you choose to show one. These are public.
  • Teams and collaborations: team pages are public, apart from who runs them. If someone adds you to a team or credits you on a project, your name and role appear straight away and you’re notified. You can remove yourself at any time, and you’ll be asked before you’re added again.
  • Projects submitted without an account: the details you enter. We don’t record who sent them. If you sign in afterwards from the same browser to manage the project, it’s linked to your account.
  • Someone else’s project submitted while signed in: we note that you sent it, so we can tell you whether it was approved. This isn’t shown on the project.
  • Unclaimed projects: projects added by visitors or by us contain information from the project’s public website. If that includes personal data about you, you can ask us to remove it.
  • Claims: what you write in your claim. To decide whether it can go through straight away, we check whether your account’s email domain matches the project’s website. Moderators reviewing a claim see your email address.
  • Reports and takedown requests: the reason, details and, if you give one, your email address. We delete the email address once the report is closed.
  • Activity: your upvotes and saved projects. These are private. Creators see how many new upvotes their projects get, never who gave them.
  • Notifications: updates about your profile, teams, collaborations, projects and claims, which only you can see. Read notifications are deleted after 90 days, and you can turn some kinds off. If something involves you and you haven’t seen it in Otene, we email it to your account’s address — at most once an hour, or once a day, or never, as you choose in your notification settings or with the link in any email. Our emails contain no tracking pixels or tracked links.
  • Messages: conversations with other people on Otene, including requests to collaborate on a project. Only the people in a conversation can read it, not moderators.
  • Follows: the people and teams you follow. Only you see the list. Others see how many followers they have, and get a notification naming you when you follow them.
  • Basic technical data: like any website, our hosting keeps short-lived logs such as IP addresses. Project view counts are anonymous. If you upload an image without an account, we keep a one-way hash of your address for a week, only to limit how many images one visitor can upload.

3. Why we use it

To run your account and listings, show and rank projects, check claims and reports, keep Otene free of spam and abuse, and reply when you contact us. We rely on providing the service you use and our legitimate interest in keeping it safe and useful.

4. Who we share it with

We never sell your data. We use a few providers to run Otene: Supabase (database, sign-in and storage), Vercel (hosting), Resend (sending email), and Google or GitHub if you sign in with them. They may process data outside your country with appropriate safeguards. We may also share data if the law requires it.

5. Cookies

We only use a cookie to keep you signed in. There are no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, so there’s no cookie banner. If you submit a project without an account, your browser keeps a note of it so it can be linked to you when you sign in; you can clear it with your browser’s site data.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your data while you have an account. Deleting your account removes your profile, projects, claims, team memberships, follows, upvotes, saved projects, notifications and uploaded images. Messages you sent stay with the people you sent them to, without your name. Teams with other members carry on, keeping any logo you uploaded for them, and the next member becomes an admin if you were the only one. Teams where you’re the only member are deleted. Backups may take a short time to clear.

7. Your rights

You can see, correct or delete your data from your profile settings. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to stop using it, or complain to your local data protection authority. For any of these, email i-built@gmail.com.

8. Children

Otene isn’t meant for children under 13.

9. Changes

If we update this policy, we’ll change the date at the top.
